New year, new blog.

I've never been much for resolutions, since if there's something I think I should or need to do, I just do it without having to wait for a specific date on the calendar.

I have seen a few posts on Ravelry about stash-busting and selfish knitting, so I'm taking a leap and trying to do a few things:

  • Reduce the amount of yarn I own. It's over 100 miles of yarn, which is quite ridiculous, as I only knit about 2.5 miles of it in the last year. I am going to try to put myself on a hiatus from buying new yarn for at least a few months and see how that goes. I will aim to knit only from what I already own—and to help me with that goal, I've been rearranging my Ravelry queue to put higher priority to projects that I already have yarn for. I have a ton of stuff that I would like to make, but I don't own a lot of DK/Aran/Worsted yarns. I do own a ton of fingering & lace, so most of what I knit in the next few months will use that.

The only exceptions for new yarn will be if I get gifted any (unlikely), or if I find awesome sweaters at a thrift store/discount store that I can unravel & scavenge for yarn (also unlikely). If I can make it to March, I'll reevaluate and see where to go from there.
  • Knit for myself. I knit exactly 0 things for me in 2014. I have a WIP scarf for someone else, a WIP baby blanket, and a birthday present or two queued for other people, but otherwise 2015 will be the time to knit all those things I've been drooling over, but keep pushing back to accommodate knitting for others.
Aside from these things, I'd like to:
  • get back to eating better—I've been Primal/Paleo for about two years, but fell off the train pretty hard during the stress of moving/working 3+ jobs/moving in with my brother who eats shit constantly. I'm going to allow myself to eat junk food once in a while, but I need to cook more during the week and make meals ahead of time so that I don't resort to frozen crap in a box.
  • be more active. i would like to get back into a regular running schedule—I was knitting about 5 miles a day in 2013, and it slowly tapered to nothing with my increasingly busy schedule. I recently moved, and I don't know if there are any safe/interesting trails nearby, so my goal for the spring will be to find a good place for running and/or biking. Until then, my brother has a treadmill, so I don't really have any excuse not to run at least a mile or two every day.

In addition, I had a daily yoga practice while I was in yoga teacher training, and afterward, but with the move (and not living two blocks away from several studios), my schedule, and general lack of motivation, my practice has suffered. I am going to try to have a practice for myself (not counting classes that I am teaching!), and find some new studios relatively close to my new neighborhood.
  • find better employment. Right now I'm teaching 2-3 days a week, working one part-time job 2x a week, and another part-time job about 2-3x a week on top of several freelance jobs. I would like to get more yoga teaching jobs and possibly get rid of the other part-time jobs with something a bit less random. These were all "in the meantime" jobs, but I need something with better hours and better pay. I'd love to teach yoga full-time, but we'll see!

But for now, I'm going to keep knitting my Worsted Boxy (using up some vintage yarn), and find a January project for myself—either a shawl or mittens (see also: all the fingering yarn ever).
